Creating a MySQL/MariaDB database in Plesk
Most dynamic websites and apps, including WordPress, need a database. Here's how to create one and a database user in Plesk.
Most dynamic websites and apps β including WordPress β store their content in a MySQL/MariaDB database. On myPandos Shared, Cloud, and WordPress Hosting, you create and manage databases in Plesk.
Create a database
- Log in to Plesk β open your hosting service in the dash (https://dash.mypandos.io) and use the quick tools, or go to https://plesk.mypandos.io directly.
- Open your domain, then find Databases.
- Click Add Database, give it a name, and confirm.
Create a database user
- Open your new database and add a database user (Plesk can also do this as part of creating the database).
- Set a username and a strong password β your application will need both to connect.
- Note the database host, usually
localhostfrom within your hosting account unless your application specifies otherwise.
Connecting your application
You'll need the database name, username, password, host (commonly localhost), and port (the MySQL default is 3306) β enter these in your app or CMS's configuration. For WordPress, this happens during the installer step, or later in its wp-config.php file.
Managing an existing database
From the same Databases screen in Plesk, open phpMyAdmin to browse tables, run queries, and import or export data.
Troubleshooting
- βAccess deniedβ errors β double-check the username and password, and confirm the user is assigned to that specific database.
- Forgotten database password β reset it from the same Databases screen in Plesk.
