Backups and restores for hosting and VPS
What's backed up and how to restore it β the process is different for Shared/WordPress Hosting (Plesk) than for VPS/Cloud Hosting.
How backups and restores work depends on which myPandos product you have.
Shared and WordPress Hosting (Plesk)
- Your hosting plan includes a weekly backup of your account as standard.
- Create, download, or restore a backup from Plesk's Backup Manager β open your hosting service in the dash and use the quick tools to log in to Plesk, or go to https://plesk.mypandos.io directly, then open your domain's backup tools.
- Restoring a backup overwrites your site's current files and database with the backup's contents. If you're not sure you'll want to keep the current state, take a fresh backup first.
VPS and Cloud Hosting
VPS gives you two related but different tools, both managed from your VPS's page in the dash:
- Backups β a full, compressed copy of your VPS, created on demand or on a schedule you set (daily, weekly, or monthly, at a chosen hour) with a retention limit for how many old backups to keep. Create, restore, or delete backups from the Backups tab.
- Snapshots β a quick point-in-time copy of your VPS's disk, optionally including its RAM state, meant for short-term safety before a risky change: take one, make your change, and roll back instantly if something breaks. Create, roll back, or delete snapshots from the Snapshots tab.
Restoring a backup or rolling back a snapshot replaces the current state of your VPS β anything created or changed since that point is lost.
Before a risky change
Take a snapshot (VPS) or a fresh backup (Shared/WordPress Hosting) before installing something new, running an update you're unsure about, or making any change you might need to undo.
Can I download a copy to keep myself?
For Shared/WordPress Hosting, Plesk's Backup Manager lets you download a backup. For VPS backups and snapshots, contact [email protected] if you need an offline copy outside myPandos.
