SSL for subdomains: what your certificate covers and how to secure more
A standard certificate covers yourdomain.com and www. Each additional subdomain (shop., app., mail.) needs its own certificate β on myPandos shared hosting, free Let's Encrypt certificates are issued per subdomain from the hosting panel, or a wildcard certificate covers them all at once.
Certificates do not automatically cover every subdomain.
What covers what
- Standard certificate:
yourdomain.com+www.yourdomain.com. - Per-subdomain Let's Encrypt: free, issued from your hosting panel for each subdomain you add (shop., app., β¦), renewing automatically.
- Wildcard certificate: one certificate for
*.yourdomain.comβ every subdomain at once.
On myPandos shared hosting
- Add the subdomain in your hosting panel.
- Issue the free Let's Encrypt certificate for it (or ask here and our team does it).
- Check the padlock; the certificate renews automatically.
