Using Cloudflare with your myPandos domain
Point a myPandos domain at Cloudflare without losing your mail: what changes, which DNS records you must copy across first, and how to make the switch.
Cloudflare sits in front of your website as a DNS provider, CDN and security layer. Using it with a myPandos domain is supported and common — but it changes who answers DNS for your domain, and that is the part that catches people out.
What actually changes
Your domain stays registered with myPandos. Renewals, transfers, WHOIS and contact details are unaffected and still managed at dash.mypandos.io. What changes is DNS hosting: once you point the domain at Cloudflare's nameservers, Cloudflare answers every DNS query, and the myPandos DNS zone for that domain stops being used.
The step everyone forgets
Copy your existing DNS records into Cloudflare before you switch the nameservers. Cloudflare scans your current zone when you add the domain, but the scan is best-effort and regularly misses records.
The record that matters most is MX. If your mail is hosted with myPandos and the MX records do not exist in Cloudflare at the moment the nameservers change, incoming mail stops. Senders get bounces, and nothing in your website will look broken — which is why this is usually noticed late.
Check every record type you rely on, not just the website:
- A / AAAA — the website itself
- MX — incoming mail
- TXT — SPF, DKIM and DMARC; missing these sends your outgoing mail to spam
- CNAME — www, webmail, and any third-party services
- SRV and any custom records added for other providers
Making the switch
- Add the domain in your Cloudflare account and let it scan the existing records.
- Compare what it found against your current zone in dash.mypandos.io under Domains → DNS, and add anything missing by hand.
- Cloudflare gives you two nameservers. In dash.mypandos.io, open the domain and change its nameservers to those two, replacing the myPandos ones.
- Wait for propagation. Cloudflare confirms in your dashboard when it starts receiving queries; allow up to 24 hours, though it is usually much faster.
Before you decide
Cloudflare is genuinely useful for caching, DDoS protection and a firewall. It is not required. If you only wanted free DNS hosting, myPandos already includes that — see What is FreeDNS — with none of the mail-record risk above.
