Domain renewals and expiry: how invoice-based renewal works
myPandos renews domains through invoices, not an automatic registrar toggle. A renewal invoice is issued before your domain expires β paying it renews the domain. Learn how to pay on time, check your renewal price, and avoid costly grace and redemption periods.
myPandos renews your domains through invoices rather than an automatic registrar setting. Before your domain reaches its expiry date, a renewal invoice appears in your dashboard β paying that invoice is what renews the domain. This guide explains the full renewal cycle and how to avoid the risks of letting a domain expire.
How domain renewal works
There is no registrar-level auto-renew toggle on myPandos domains. Renewal follows a simple invoice cycle:
- A renewal invoice is generated automatically before your domain's expiry date.
- The invoice appears in your dashboard and you are notified by email.
- Once you pay the invoice, myPandos renews the domain for you.
Because the domain is only renewed after payment, paying the renewal invoice promptly is the single most important thing you can do to keep your domain safe.
Paying a renewal invoice
- Sign in to your dashboard at dash.mypandos.io.
- Go to Invoices.
- Open the renewal invoice for your domain.
- Click Pay and complete the payment by card (processed securely through PayFast). Invoice currencies include ZAR and USD.
Checking your renewal price
On the domain's page in your dashboard, the current renewal price is shown beside the price you originally paid. Check it before the invoice arrives so there are no surprises β renewal prices can differ from the registration price you paid at purchase.
What happens if you don't pay
If the renewal invoice stays unpaid, your domain moves through increasingly risky stages:
| Stage | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Approaching expiry | A renewal invoice has been generated and is waiting for payment. | Pay the invoice in your dashboard. |
| Expired | The domain has passed its expiry date and can stop working. | Pay the renewal invoice as soon as possible. |
| Grace / redemption | The domain is held for a limited time; recovering it can cost significantly more. | Open a support ticket immediately β recovery is not guaranteed. |
Note: Recovering a domain in redemption can cost considerably more than a normal renewal, and in some cases the domain cannot be recovered at all. Never plan on the grace period as a safety net β pay renewal invoices before expiry.
Keep your contact email current
Renewal invoices and reminders are sent to the email address on your myPandos account. If that address is out of date β or points to a mailbox on the very domain that is expiring β you may never see the reminder. Review your email address in your dashboard profile settings whenever it changes, and consider using an address that does not depend on the domain being renewed.
